Casa Núñez is extremely excited to announce their first Puerto Rican "Octavita" scheduled for 7:00 pm on January 8, 2019!
So what is an "Octavita"?
This tradition comes from the old liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church, in which certain important festivals are assigned eight days of celebration. The "Octave of the Epiphany" commemorates the revelation of Jesus Christ. The party begins on January 6, commemorating the visit of the Three Kings (Magi) and culminates on January 13.Our menu will consist of authentic dishes prepared in Puerto Rico during this celebration.
The main dish will be the Puerto Rican “Asopao de Pollo”, a cross between soup and paella. It is a hearty one-dish meal featuring chicken thighs, diced lean ham, rice, and assorted seasonings typically offered after a night of Parrandas. The dessert will be "Tembleque," which means "wiggly," and is a creamy coconut pudding that is famous throughout the island.
We will also be offering the traditional Octavita beverage, "Ponche." It is often compared to the eggnog and definitely adds to the festive celebration.
