    About Us

    Mission Statement

Our Mission is to promote the use of highly trained domesticated pets to improve the health, independence and quality of life of citizens living in the greater Miami Valley.

    Our History

The mvPTa began on 9 April 2000 when Major Janice White, founder of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Pet Therapy Program, called a group of pet therapy volunteers together to let them know it was time to form a community-based pet therapy organization, independent of the WPAFB Pet Therapy Program. At that time, the WPAFB Pet Therapy Program had grown so large that it was providing services to over 10 facilities in surrounding communities. Helping to establish a community-based Pet Therapy organization was part of the WPAFB Pet Therapy Program’s mission.

Since that time, mvPTa has grown to well over 145 members strong with new training classes starting every 6 months.

We serve over 95 facilities in a six county area. We visit extensively in the greater Dayton area. It continues to be our pleasure to serve residents in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities, libraries, adolescents with behavioral challenges, and individuals with disabilities at day habilitation and residential programs.
