4 Time Management Tips for Busy Entrepreneurs

It’s easy to become overwhelmed with all of the details when building and growing a business. Entrepreneurs often struggle with managing their time in a way that allows for an enjoyable quality of life outside of their work. If this is you, know that you’re not alone.

However, don’t accept this as “just the way it is.” There is a better way to operate. Implement the following four tips so you can experience a better work/life balance.

1 - Set and Maintain Clear Boundaries

As much as you may love the work you do, it’s only one part of your life. Beware of neglecting important relationships with your friends and family for the sake of pursuing business success. Entrepreneurs are often their own worst enemies. We can definitely be the worst boss we’ve ever had! Setting and maintaining clear boundaries is critical to having a good quality of life that our businesses can offer. Work with your loved ones to determine realistic boundaries so they feel like a valuable part of the process, then stick to the agreed-upon plan.

2 - Schedule Time to Organize and Plan Your Work

One of the most overlooked steps for busy entrepreneurs is slowing down enough to be strategic. While this is a common error, it’s extremely detrimental to your success. If you are a driven action-taker, slowing down to be strategic can feel painful, but it’s well worth the effort. Consider how establishing a defined plan can then translate into more focused actions that truly move your business forward. Schedule time to strategize annually, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily. It doesn’t have to take a ton of time, but it does need to be focused and intentional.

3 - Utilize Time Blocking to Accomplish More in Less Time

Once you have a plan, block time in your schedule to tackle specific actions and projects. Some things may take 15 minutes while others may require hours. Regardless, block time in your calendar that is dedicated to accomplishing those specific tasks. Don’t let less-important tasks creep in simply because they may feel easier or more fun. Progress and success require discipline. Time blocking is a skill that can help tremendously.

    4 - Engage Accountability Partners

Once you have set your boundaries, planned your work, and blocked time for specific tasks, invite others to hold you accountable. Being a part of an entrepreneurial community can do wonders for your success. When others are doing the hard work on their end as well, it’s encouraging and energizing. Find at least one person to ask you the hard questions about how you’re doing with your time management. Be open and honest with them. Don’t expect perfection, but pursue excellence in this area. You and those you value most will benefit tremendously.

Time is your one non-renewable resource. When it’s gone, it’s gone. While pursuing a vision for a thriving business is valuable, it’s not the most valuable thing in life. Beware neglecting your most-valued people in pursuit of success. Implement these four tips and watch how your business success and quality of life can improve almost immediately.
