    About Us

Evergreen Children’s Center was dedicated as an official WILD School Site (WSS) during a small recognition ceremony on April 30, 2014 according to ODNR Division of Wildlife. The school becomes the 134th site dedicated in Ohio.

After a morning of storytelling, face painting, making seed bombs and enjoying a snack, Evergreen Children’s Center became only the second school in Greene County to be certified as a WSS. The staff and students were then treated to a music and puppet show performance by Chris Rowlands. Chris is a naturalist for Aullwood Audubon Center.

Evergreen has performed projects to learn about and benefit from wildlife and the environment while enhancing habitat for wildlife. Director Jill Gordon is the driving force for the schools recognition as a Wild Site. With the help of school staff, Evergreen has insured that the outdoor playground areas were designed to include natural areas that the students helped develop and construct. Some of the highlights include a wooded area with trails, bird feeding station, salt lick, and natural play area. On Earth Day 2014 a local girl scout organized a tree planting ceremony for her service project. The staff and students planted a variety of trees to enhance the site.

As a Certified WILD School Site, Evergreen Children’s Center commits to a sustainable environmental education program that uses the school grounds as an outdoor classroom. It also signifies the schools commitment to maintain a place for wildlife within that program.
