A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT/CEO
As we start out the year, I want to take you on a journey with me in learning techniques and skills to become a better public speaker. Public speaking actually terrifies me, believe it or not. I struggle with it on almost every occasion. I know most people do, yet it is a very integral skill in most of our businesses and lives that we truly need for success. So, let’s explore it together.
The first tip I can give you through my reading and research is “passion” or in other words answering the question, “What makes your heart sing?” This will help identify your passion and core to your identity. Can you incorporate this into your profession? Your communications? Your audience?
Passion and public speaking are intimately connected. People who are genuinely passionate about their topics are better speakers. They inspire their audiences. In a study that was done a few years ago, investors were asked to evaluate a business pitch on 13 criteria and to rank each one in order of importance to their final decision. The strength of the opportunity and the strength of the entrepreneur ranked number 1 and 2. Passion came in third, well above education, style, start up and age. Passion matters as it involves enthusiasm and excitement. So do what you love! You will be on your way to influence others by inspiring them the way you inspired yourself. You will be able to connect with more people with more confidence.
Step 1: Discover what makes your heart sing.
Here FOR you,
Wendy Rodgers
President/CEO
